JOB TITLE:  ELL PARAPROFESSIONAL - Middle School

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate Degree or 48 college hours; passing score on Paraeducator Assessment
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle distractions, resolve conflicts
  • Patience
  • Ability to put needs of others uppermost
  • Self motivation
  • Ability to relate to and work with students and adults

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal

 

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM:  Teacher; Building Principal

 

JOB GOAL:  To assist the teacher in providing education and instruction to the student

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Varies, depending on each school

 

EVALUATION:  Evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the district’s Personnel Evaluation Policy

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Consistent and punctual attendance at the worksite is an essential job function
  • Directly supervise small/large groups of students as directed by supervisor/teacher
  • Maintain attendance records and alerts teacher to needs of students
  • Make reference of students needing special help to other staff members
  • Perform clerical duties including typing, drawing, writing, and duplicating instructional materials
  • Research and assemble materials for units
  • Drills to reinforce any skill teacher has taught
  • Prepare bulletin boards, graphs, charts, etc.
  • Correct papers
  • Assist in care of the room
  • Assist students with reading, make-up work, group activities, etc.
  • Assist with inventories
  • Assist when emergencies arise
  • Flexibility in working with ELL students within the regular classroom
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English/Spanish preferred
  • Performs supervisory activities such as lunchroom, playground, before/after school assignments
  • Other duties as assigned
