JOB TITLE:   SPECIAL EDUCATION PARA

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma                          
  • First aid/CPR certificate desired not required 

 

REPORTS TO:   Building Administrator; Special Education Teacher                 

 

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Building Administrator, Special Education Teacher

 

JOB GOAL:  Assist the teacher in providing education and instruction to students

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  School year only, 30 hours/week

 

EVALUATION:   Special Education Teacher and Building Administrator

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Consistent and punctual "on site" attendance at the worksite is an essential job function
  • Works with small groups of students, as directed by the teacher, to reinforce directions or tutor in needed areas
  • Listens to students read, and reads to students
  • Helps students with make-up work
  • Assists in individual or group activities, games, flash cards, computers, etc.
  • Assists students in interpreting and following directions of teacher
  • Drills - to reinforce any skill the teacher has taught
  • Types, draws, writes & duplicates instructional material
  • Makes educational games and aids
  • Alerts teacher to needs of students
  • Assists teacher in checking progress of individualized study projects
  • Supervises lunchroom, playground, halls, classrooms & other assigned activities
  • Prepares bulletin boards, charts & graphs
  • Reserves films & other instructional media
  • Assist with loading & unloading of special education buses
  • Transfers and positions students with physical disabilitiesAssists when emergencies arise
  • Does miscellaneous typing & filing
  • Inventories books, materials & equipment
  • Assists when emergencies arise
  • Performs other delegated responsibilities assigned by teacher or administrator

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS (Intellectual, Sensory):

  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Skills in organization, leadership and human relations
  • Visual and auditory skills for dealing with students
