JOB TITLE:   Occupational Therapy Paraprofessional

 

Full-time Part-time (20 hours per week)

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

EDUCATION: High school diploma

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services

 

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: OT/ PT Therapist

 

JOB GOAL:

The Occupational Therapy Paraprofessional works under the direct supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to assist in the educational programming and rehabilitative services for students that qualify for Occupational Therapy services.

Under general supervision, the employee will assist the therapist with a variety of tasks related to individual student needs.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twenty hours per week / Nine month employment (the position is utilized during the regular school year).

 

EVALUATION: Evaluated annually on the basis of effort, enthusiasm, interpersonal skills, knowledge of school environment, policies and procedures, organization, and performance of responsibilities.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Consistent and punctual work attendance at the worksite is required
  • Carry out activities, designed by the assigned therapist, related to fine motor, perceptual motor, sensorimotor, oral motor and/or self help skills
  • Confers with the Occupational Therapist regarding IEP goals and objectives as determined by the OT assessment
  • Works in conjunction with other staff to enhance the student's participation in school activities
  • Provides accurate records and documentation for Medicare in The Public Schools (MIPS)
  • Manages time, organizes materials and performs clerical duties as assigned
  • Assists in maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures
  • Complies with all legal regulations relevant to the assigned job title
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Updates job knowledge and professional skills by participating in educational training opportunities and collaborating with colleagues
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Adheres to laws, codes, rules, and standards related to occupational therapy services under the direction of the therapist.
  • Flexibility is required to work with others to build effective working relationships
  • Ability to effectively work with a wide diversity of individuals and utilize a variety of  job-related equipment
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Interacting and communicating with diverse groups of students and families

  • Demonstrate leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Visual acuity in determining and judging work needed and completed

  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities
