JOB TITLE:  ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER-Lincoln/Montessori

  

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited university or college
  • Valid Nebraska Certificate with appropriate endorsement in subject area
  • Successful teaching and/or practice teaching experience
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate

REPORTS TO:  Building Administrator

 

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM:  Building Administrator

 

JOB GOAL: To organize and foster a collaborative environment which effectively facilitates student learning, increases interpersonal communication skills, develops a deeper appreciation of culture and heritage, and reinforces respect for self, property and others.  The classroom teacher is expected to be a positive role model and assist students in his/her development as a productive citizen and responsible adult.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Nine-month year or as established by the Board of Education

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of administrative guidelines; evaluated by building administrators

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

BASIC

  • Implements Board policy regarding education philosophy/curriculum under the direction of the administration through planning, organizing, managing, interacting with students; establishing rapport with students, staff, parents, and community; and continuing professional development

 

FREQUENT

  • Plans instructional objectives and activities consistent with curriculum guides
  • Directs and supervises learning activities
  • Implements the disciplinary procedures of the building/district
  • Supervises behavior in the school environment to maintain the safety and well being of the students and staff
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, absences and tardies
  • Uses an appropriate variety of instructional approaches
  • Makes good use of technology, audio-visual materials and aids
  • Instruction is individualized to enable all students to experience academic growth and personal success
  • Communicates a positive support of the students in their educational development
  • Recognizes the exemplary influence of the educator over the students
  • Supervises playground, cafeteria, halls on a scheduled basis

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Student behavior does not detract from the effective learning climate in the classroom
  • Teacher exhibits patience, openness, and concern in dealing with students
  • Rapport within and outside the classroom evidences mutual respect between the students and teacher
  • Teacher exhibits tact and self-control in dealing with parents
  • Communicates readily and cooperates with fellow staff members
  • Teacher accepts suggestions from administrators without resentment

OCCASIONAL

  • Relates with staff, parents and community through positive professional cooperation
  • Suggests positive recommendations for the continuing review and development of curriculum
  • Remains current with professional training and shows evidence of regular professional growth
  • Actively participates at scheduled staff meetings and serves on district committees
  • Assumes responsibility periodically for conferences with parents
  • Recognizes the extra curriculum program as integral to the educational development of the child
  • Performs other duties within the scope of employment and certification as assigned by the appropriate administrator 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS (Intellectual, Sensory):

  • Exemplary command of oral and written communication skills
  • Skills in leadership, interpersonal relations, organization, prioritization, problem solving and conflict management, assessment and evaluation
  • Visual acuity in supervisory rules; teaching
  • Auditory acuity in teaching functions

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • Teacher dresses appropriately and is well groomed
  • Teacher shows enthusiasm and initiative
  • Teacher is punctual and professional in job responsibilities
  • Teacher is willing to spend time outside the regular school day to assist students and supervise school activities
