JOB TITLE:  Special Education-High Needs Para W/Driving

 

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • High school diploma
  • First aid/CPR certificate desired
  • Driver’s license and good driving record
  • Must pass a DOT physical

 

REPORTS TO:  Building Administrator; Special Education Teacher

 

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM:  Building Administrator; Special Education Teacher

 

JOB GOAL:  Assist the teacher in providing education and instruction to students

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  6 hours/day; school year only (This position will go to full time with benefits upon successful completion of the district driving requirements)

 

EVALUATION:  Evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the district’s Personnel Evaluation Policy

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

  • Consistent and punctual "on-site" attendance at the worksite is an essential job function
  • Types, draws, writes and duplicates instructional material; makes educational games and aids
  • Listens to students read, and reads to students
  • Helps students with make-up work
  • Assists in individual or group activities, games, flash cards, computers, etc.
  • Assists students in interpreting and following directions of teacher
  • Drills - to reinforce any skill the teacher has taught
  • Alerts teacher to needs of students
  • Assists teacher in checking progress of individualized study projects
  • Supervises lunchroom, playground, halls, classrooms and other assigned activities
  • Prepares bulletin boards, charts, and graphs
  • Assists with the physical and health needs of the children, such as feeding and toileting
  • Assists with augmentative communication/electronic devices/be willing to be trained for use
  • Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects and notifies the proper authorities in the case of mechanical failure
  • Follows guidelines for loading/unloading students
  • Transports only authorized students
  • Obeys all traffic laws; observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses
  • Keeps to assigned schedule
  • Maintains discipline when students are on the bus/van and reports undisciplined students to the proper authority
  • Discharges students only at authorized stops

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (continued):

  • Keeps assigned bus clean
  • Reports all accidents and advises about all possible safety problems
  • Transfers and positions students with physical disabilities
  • Does miscellaneous typing and filing
  • Inventories books, materials and equipment
  • Assists when emergencies arise
  • Performs other delegated non-instructional responsibilities assigned by teacher or administrator
